When Hip Hop started, the DJ was the centerpiece. Hip Hop was about the party, and it was the DJ that kept everyone dancing. As MCs began to develop their roles began to grow, but the DJ was still very important. Once the first rap records came out, the MC started becoming more important than the DJ. At parties DJs were very important, but in studios where records were recorded DJs weren''t needed because live bands were used for music instead of the DJ and his turntables.
