Baltimore's second poet laureat was Max Rubin, who owed his appointment to
Mayor Theodore Roosevelt McKeldin. Mr. Rubin, a native of Bessarabia, came to
Baltimore in 1914 to follow a career as philosopher, poet and pants maker.
