Velayutham Saravanan Until the late eighteenth century or till colonial intervention, the tribals were managing forest resources out of which they made their livelihood/subsistence without any restriction. Previous rulers imposed no curbs on this. After colonial intervention, the forest resources were alienated/ controlled to meet the imperial requirements as well as commercial pursuits in different parts of the Indian subcontinent (Saravanan 1994 , 1998, 1999, 2001; ...
